For my digital media class, I read an article called Video Art by Michael Rush. This article begins by describing the "emergence" of video art. This means how and when video art came to be. Rush explains that in 1965, video technology became available to people outside of the 'industry' to people such as artists and activists. The 'industry' being Hollywood. Soon enough millions of people could afford to make 'moving images' or videos. This made the 'art of the moving image' a lot easier to manage and create.
Michael Rush goes on to explain that video soon became an important tool to artists, engineers, choreographers, etc. He explains that video has moved from 'brief showings' on a small screen to 'dominance in international exhibitions.' Meaning that video now has the ability to take up the whole side of a building, or be produced on a large screen in a theater.
Rush concludes with explaining that artists are combining video with film, computer art, etc. and new artistic expressions are being created. He states that some people believe that the 'digital' era is the end of real Video Art. He states that Video art has already ceased to be a 'intimate medium' that it once was.
